Kirklees Council has released the bin collection calendars for 2025, which include the all-important dates for the fast-approaching festive period.

Collections will resume on Thursday, January 2.

Residents scheduled for bin collections on Wednesday, December 25 will have their collections on Friday, January 3, while residents scheduled for bin collections on Thursday, December 26, will have their collections on Thursday, January 2.

Coun Munir Ahmed, Cabinet Member for Environment and Highways, said: “As Christmas approaches, we understand that residents may be feeling concerned about the extra waste that often comes with the festivities, which is why we’re sharing important information about our Christmas collection dates and recycling options.

“As usual this year, we will collect any extra waste and recycling during the first collections of the New Year.”

The council has also advised that households with excess waste this Christmas may leave up to two tied bags of general waste next to their grey bins for collection on the first grey bin collection day in January.

Excess cardboard can also be flattened and left next to green bins for collection during the first recycling collection. Residents are asked to make sure that all Styrofoam and plastic packaging is removed from cardboard before recycling. Any excess materials will only be collected during the first grey and green collections in 2025.

The four Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) in Kirklees will follow their standard Christmas opening hours. They will close on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day but will operate as usual for the rest of the holiday season.

The opening hours for HWRCs have changed recently so residents are advised to check the specific opening hours for their chosen location before travelling, which can be found on the council’s website: www.kirklees.gov.uk/wastesites

Coun Ahmed added: “I encourage anyone doing a pre, or post-Christmas clear out to take any reusable items to the donation points located at each of our four Household Waste Recycling Centres.

“To help residents stay organised, we’ve made the 2025 collection calendars available online where bin collection dates can be easily checked on the council website or by logging into My Kirklees account.

“Additionally, signing up for bin reminder emails can help ensure that people never miss a collection day. We recognise that the holidays can be a busy time, and we’re hoping to help residents be organised by sharing our waste information ahead of time.”

The nearest Household Waste Recycling Centre in North Kirklees is based at Weaving Lane, off Thornhill Road, Dewsbury, WF12 9QR. Its winter opening times are Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm; Saturday, 8am to 4pm; and Sunday, 8am to 4pm.
