Engineering expertise

A DEWSBURY firm will offer its expertise to engineering students at two top universities.

Manufacturer Mabey Hire has set up Student Link at Bolton University and Loughborough University to boost the education of future civil engineers.

The scheme works directly with universities to give unique insight, help and opportunities to students.

Mabey Hire, which produces temporary works equipment for refurbishment and access systems, will mentor students, hold guest lectures and offer internships and work placements at its bases across the UK.

The scheme will also present an annual award for the best dissertation at each selected university, and a national award for best overall dissertation.

Managing director Mark Rooney said: “The future of the engineering workforce is vital to us and with the wealth of knowledge and experience we have within our internal teams we feel we can offer numerous benefits to universities and students alike.”

The Ravensthorpe-based company plans to add a further six universities to the scheme next year.

The family firm employs almost 400 people at 18 depots.
