Emergency Services Show this weekend

From 11.30am-4.30pm. the event, at West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) Headquarters on Bradford Road, Birkenshaw, will include the police, fire and ambulance services who will be putting on a day of fun.

The crowds will get the chance to see a number of demonstrations whilst also picking up some essential advice about how to keep themselves and their families safe.

WYFRS will have a whole host of specialist appliances and equipment on display so you can see what life as a firefighter is really like.

There will be the aerial ladder platforms, which are used to tackle fires and rescue people from tall buildings, and various units on hand including the rope rescue team and water rescue teams, and the wildfire unit specifically trained to deal with moorland blazes.

Clever brigade canines from the Urban Search and Rescue team will be showing off their sniffer skills and how they use their über sensitive noses to help find lost or trapped casualties.

Firefighters will also create a mock-up scenario to show how they free casualties from smashed up vehicles following road traffic collisions.

Chief Fire Officer Simon Pilling said: “The show has been immensely popular over the years and we hope this year it will be even more so!

“Last year‟s event was the 10th anniversary of the show and raised a spectacular £11,000! Not only is it a great day of fun for all the family but it helps some great causes so do come along and support us!”

After costs last year‟s proceeds were divided between The Fire Fighters Charity, The British Red Cross and The Forget Me Not Trust.

This year the proceeds will go once again to The Fire Fighters Charity, as well as Parkinson‟s UK, The Salvation Army and Martin House Children‟s Hospice.

Other activities on the day include fairground rides, a performance from a dance troop, and music from the fire service band.

For the energetic there will be an Army assault course and for the little ones there will be an appearance from Little Freddy Fire Engine as well as some loveable donkeys.

West Yorkshire Police Local Neighbourhood Policing Team officers will be visiting the show, as well as

Crime Prevention Officers, Specials, the road crime team and roads policing. The mounted division and police dogs will also be groomed for the occasion.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service‟s Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), which is trained to deliver clinical care at hazardous incidents, will be attending the event and exhibiting some of their equipment and vehicles. And don‟t forget to pop along to the Resilience Village‟ to find out how Local Authority Emergency Planning teams, NHS Emergency Teams and the Environment Agency work with other responders to help manage and recover from emergencies.

Other charities and voluntary organisations will also be at the event, with around 50 stalls expected and a choice of food and drink from around the world on offer.

Entry is £1 per person, children under four enter free.

There will be disabled parking on site. Assistance dogs only allowed.
