Elvis impersonator all shook up over new licence plate

AN Elvis Presley impersonator has got a new special something in his life.

But this Elvis fan’s latest flame isn’t a girl called Marie, but a new personalised registration plate for his Vauxhall Vectra.

Jason Webster, 44, got all shook up when he stumbled across the ‘ELV 15F’ number plate on the DVLA’s website.

He said: “I’d been looking for a while for a plate with my name or initials on but when I saw the Elvis plate I thought, ‘I’ve got to have that.’”

Jason, of Sunnybank Parade, Mirfield, knew the opportunity to get his hands on an Elvis plate was now or never, so travelled to Leeds for the auction.

He said: “This sort of thing comes up once in a blue moon so I knew I just had to go for it.

“I’d never seen anything like it before so was willing to go up to around £2,500 for it, but I thought it might go into the tens of thousands.”

Accompanied by his own good luck charm, a silver half dollar belonging to his late father, Bevan, Jason found himself in a head-to-head bidding war with a rival Elvis fan.

And after hoping for a little less conversation from the opponent telephone bidder, Jason got his wish and bagged the rock ‘n’ roll registration plate for £2,100.

Despite a listing price of just £450, Jason, who has Elivs jumpsuits worth £3,000, said he didn’t mind parting with the cash.

He said: “I’ve since seen similar ones on the internet going for £175,000 plus.

“If I wanted to sell it I could probably make quite a bit of money, but I don’t want to. As soon as I get the go ahead from the DVLA it will be going straight on the car.”

He added: “For as long as I can remember I have listened to Elvis being played in the home as my father was a huge fan of the man and his music.”

Poignantly the Vectra which will sport the number plate belonged to Jason’s late father.

He added: “When I arrive at a gig, the guests will know Elvis will be in the building!”
