Elated! Cancer teen Amy gets the all clear

But Amy, her dad Toni, mum Carol and brother Wayne have faced the fight with a smile and plenty of courage.

And now the family has cause to celebrate, for Amy has been given the all clear.

The 19-year-old, a familiar face to many from behind the counter in Heckmondwike Superdrug, said: “On the way to the hospital I was nervous because I thought it was going to be bad news.

“I was petrified but when we got there my consultant said there were no more abnormalities and everything had cleared up.

“I was ecstatic – I can’t put it into words. I felt like jumping around and screaming. I’d kicked its backside. It was the best news and I felt like I could breathe again. I felt perfect, like I could have run a marathon.

“We were all crying. I couldn’t hold it in.

“The cancer has gone and hopefully it won’t come back.”

Toni said: “It was so worrying but when we got the news it was like someone had taken a huge weight off my back. It is so fantastic.”

Amy, who was known as ‘the girl with the pink hair’ said she was hoping to return to work later this year.

She said the family were focussing on fundraising for the Teenage Cancer Trust and were taking part in a fun day at The Liversedge in Leeds Road tomorrow (Monday) from 2pm.

She said: “My work isn’t done until I can give something back.

“This has changed me. I am stronger and more confident and I’m proud of how I’ve coped. And it’s brought our family closer together. We’re as strong as a steel bar.”

Amy and her family thanked everyone who had supported them during their fight.
