A PRE-SCHOOL which started off in a portable cabin has been rated as outstanding in every category by Ofsted.
Thornhill Community Pre-School has been praised by the school inspection body for meeting the individual needs of children and maintaining strong relationships with parents and carers.
Manager Dianne Graham said: “There were tears in my eyes. All the staff were absolutely over the moon.
“That’s what we worked hard for, and for someone to come in and pick that up from being with the children and speaking to them is fantastic.”
The pre-school was set up by Thornhill residents in 1974, in a portable cabin in the grounds of the local primary school.
Mrs Graham became centre manager 12 years ago, after her own children attended the pre-school. It moved into the nearby Surestart Centre around ten years ago.
Mrs Graham said: “Now we are up there at the top, the hardest bit is staying there.”
An Ofsted inspector turned up at the pre-school in Edge Lane without giving any notice in advance.
The Ofsted report marked the pre-school as outstanding in all 17 categories. It said: “A rich, vibrant and varied environment, coupled with meticulous individual observations, assessments and plans, means that all children are eager to attend, show superb levels of curiosity and make significant gains in their learning.”
