Asda in Dewsbury asked the academy to take part as part of the supermarket’s Tickled Pink campaign, which benefits two breast cancer charities.

In total 35 students, 10 of which were prefects, spent four hours packing customers’ bags.

Matthew Burton, assistant head at the academy said: “We’re committed to doing what we can in the local community; we think Breast Cancer UK is an excellent cause.”

The academy has also taken part in other community based initiatives such as the i13 project and charity awareness days for events such as Red Nose Day and the Children in Need appeal.

Educating Yorkshire, the Channel 4 documentary series filmed at the academy, came to a tearful end last night.
