East Bierley Golf Club putts fundraising top of the agenda

Generous golfers in East Bierley have raised £3,000 for Martin House Children’s Hospice.

More than 20 teams of players enjoyed a day of golf at East Bierley Golf Club, sponsored by Park House Healthcare.

Club members, local groups and shops also showed their support by sponsoring tees and donating prizes for the tombola, raffle and auction.

Trevor Haigh, club president, said: “We are pleased to once again support Martin House Children’s Hospice as we are aware of the tremendous work that they do in supporting children and their families at a time of need.”

The hospice, based in Wetherby, offers respite care to children with life-limiting or terminal conditions. The care team provides medical, practical and emotional support, not only to the child but also to parents, grandparents and siblings.

All services are provided free of charge. The annual cost to Martin House of running these services is £4.9 million, most of which is raised through voluntary donations.

Sarah Tarpey, community fundraiser with Martin House, said: “East Bierley Golf Club have worked incredibly hard over the past years to raise thousands of pounds for our hospice, and we are incredibly grateful for their amazing support. Without the support of people like this within our local community, Martin House would not be here for some of the most vulnerable children in Yorkshire.”
