E-fit released in hunt to find those who burgled vulnerable pensioner

Police investigating the burglary of a vulnerable elderly woman in Batley have released a e-fit image of one of the suspects.

The incident happened on March 24 between 2.30pm and 2.45pm on Victoria Avenue where suspects gained entry to a 76-year-old woman’s house.

The pensioner was at home alone and suffers from mobility problems. She was watching TV when she heard the front door open and called out thinking it was a family member.

When there was no answer, she made her way to the front door, which was wide open and saw a man walking down the stairs and another man by the door.

The men said they were looking for their grandmother, apologise and left, getting into a black Peugeot 307.

After checking upstairs, there is a strong smell of smoke and she discovered her jewellery box has been stolen. Items taken include 18” gold chain with a double sided Egyptian Nefertiti head, silver chain necklace with a ruby stone, a pair of gold earrings, two watches one gold with a metal strap and the other with a brown leather strap and a gold face.

The first suspect, pictured in the e-fit, is described as male, in his early 20s, about 5ft 5ins, of medium build, Eastern European, with short dark hair and facial stubble.

He was wearing a dark coloured zip-up jacket with a washed out look, grey top underneath and grey jogging bottoms.

The second man is also described as Eastern European, in his mid 20s, of medium build, 5ft 6ins, with dark short hair.

PC Tracy Boucher of Huddersfield CID, said: “We are hoping to trace these suspects who broke into this elderly lady’s home and stole a number of items of jewellery.

“This was an upsetting ordeal for the victim, as she lives alone and they invaded her home.

“Anyone with any information about the stolen items, saw anything suspicious in the area or recognise the image in the e-fit is asked to contact myself via 101 quoting reference 13160128718.”
