Liz Colleran, director of Gomersal firm Duvalay, was chosen for a trade mission to New York as part of Santander’s Breakthrough International programme.

Liz and nine other female business leaders jetted off to the Big Apple on Saturday for a week of export-focussed meetings, introductions and networking sessions designed to give them a working insight into business culture in the US.

She was selected for the trip by Santander due to her business acumen and Duvalay’s continued growth.

Duvalay, which manufactures memory foam and memory fibre bedding, won the backing of the business dragons on the BBC’s Dragon’s Den.

Its products are already sold across Europe and Australia.

Liz said: “I’m thrilled that Duvalay’s success and potential have been recognised by Santander.

“There will be lots to learn and I’m very keen to make the most of the opportunity to advance Duvalay’s market position, gaining valuable information at first hand.”

She said she was looking forward to breakfast at the British Consulate and meeting her co-delegates on the trip.

Duvalay investor Hilary Devey said Duvalay’s potential was “crystal clear” on Dragon’s Den.

“America represents a fantastic opportunity for growth, but also raises some interesting challenges for entrepreneurial companies such as Duvalay, with its US patent pending.

“I very much look forward to catching up with Liz Colleran upon her return to the UK.”
