Prince Richard, a cousin of the Queen, visited the global textile company's HQ to tour the site and hand over a Queen's Award for Enterprise: Sustainable Development.

He was joined by the Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, Dr Ingrid Roscoe, to mark five years of award-winning environmental performance. The firm has previously won Queen's Award accolades in the innovation and international trade categories.

Camira, which also has factories in Huddersfield, has been recognised for its commitment to waste saving, recycling, staff development and corporate social responsibility.

The company makes over eight million metres of fabric per year, which is sold in 70 countries. They are a world leader in fabrics for commercial interiors and public transport, with clients including London Underground, Google, Microsoft and Facebook.

Last year they achieved zero landfill from their largest manufacturing plant in Meltham, and Camira also runs a model apprenticeship scheme as well as supporting local hospices Kirkwood and Forget Me Not through its Camira Hope project.

“Sustainable development is at the very heart of our business model and to be recognised for this in such a way is a huge achievement for Camira. It not only gives us a unique competitive advantage, but it’s great for our wider stakeholders and the communities in which we work and do business,” said chief executive Grant Russell.
