A dog bit a man who tried to rob its owner's phone in the street, causing the culprit to flee.

Huddersfield CID would like to speak to anyone who has information about the incident which took place between 3.10pm and 3.15pm on High Street, Westtown on Tuesday, July 12.

A 51 year-old man who was walking a dog, was approached by another man who asked him for the time.

The victim checked his phone and spoke to the suspect who then went away, before returning five minutes later to ask for the time again.

Becoming suspicious, the victim challenged the suspect – who then grabbed him and demanded his phone.

But the victim’s dog bit the suspect, who gave up the attempt and made off. 

DC Andy Clayton of Huddersfield CID, said: “We are appealing for witnesses to this incident and would like to speak to anyone who saw this attempted robbery or the suspect hanging around the area.

“He is described as white, 5 foot 8 inches tall, of bulky to medium build, bald and clean shaven. He was wearing a grey or green jacket and blue jeans with black footwear. 

“Anyone who has information is asked to contact myself at Huddersfield CID on 101 referencing crime 13160298405.

“Information can also be given to the independent Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
