DEWSBURY AND DISTRICT RAMBLERS - Last Sunday ten members set off from Hayfield for a 12 mile walk, which took in Kinder Scout and William Clough. Stuart Gledhill was the leader. A walk planned for Sunday May 5 has been cancelled.

DEWSBURY PROBUS CLUB - At the fortnightly meeting at Hanging Heaton Church Hall last Thursday, members observed a minute’s silence after president Ken Wright reported the death of one of their oldest members, Alan Taylor at the age of 90. Mr Taylor, a retired accountant, had been a member for 16 years and had been very active right up to his sudden death while watching Margaret Thatcher’s funeral service on television. The speaker at the meeting was Len Gardner who gave an interesting presentation entitled ‘My Life in Textiles’ and was given a vote of thanks by Peter Hallas. Reports were given by secretary John Jenkinson, treasurer Colin Spurr and registrar Tommy Lynn. At the next meeting on May 9, the speaker will be Stuart Archer with a talk entitled ‘Schools and the First World War’.

GOSPEL CHURCH - On Sunday members of the recent Missions Trip to Nepal (from the Charis Bible College, Yorkshire) spoke about their trip. They expressed how God had opened up numerous opportunities to share the gospel with the people they met. The Director of CBC (Dominic Burns) expressed gratitude to the DGC congregation for their help and support, and also for assisting in raising all the funds needed for the trip. On Sunday evening, Andrew Wommack, the world renowned Bible teacher, spoke on the importance of praising God in everything, and that how through this it causes the devil to flee!
