Mrs Green said: “We didn’t have a big wedding, not like the ones you see nowadays.

“We had about 30 people there and had our reception at Veils Cinema.”

Mrs Green’s job was in Manchester when the pair met which meant the couple didn’t see each other again until a year later.

They eventually married at Christ Church in the town.

Mrs Green, 84, said: “It’s strange because we met two and a half years before we were married.

“However, after I left Manchester I became an art teacher, which meant I could move back to Mirfield, and we went from there.”

Mrs Green worked at St Martin’s School, Brighouse, for eight years until she left to bring up their family.

The couple had two children together, Peter Green, now 53, and Sarah Holbrook, 50.

Their daughter Sarah is also celebrating her 26th wedding anniversary today, after choosing the same wedding day as her parents.

Elsie and Harold have five grandchildren, who will be joining them for their celebrations by having a family meal.
