Dewsbury team brave the elements for Barnardo’s

They faced torrential rain, wind and floods, but even that couldn’t stop four cyclists taking on 220 mile journey for a children’s charity.

Mick Butters, Paul Surman, Lee Bowen and Steve Rowbottom battled the elements during a three-and-a-half day ride from Harrogate to Edinburgh.

The team, who work together at HSL Chairs in Dewsbury, joined 15 other cyclists last month to raise more than £15,000 for Barnardo’s.

Mick, who inspired colleagues by taking part in last year’s ride, said: “It’s probably been some of the best days of my life. We had an absolute blast.

“If the money raised can put a smile on one child’s face, then how lucky are we? I wouldn’t have missed it for the world.”

Cyclists on the Ride for the North Cycle Challenge were waved off by children training at the Dr B’s Cafe in Harrogate and heard inspiring stories about other young people helped by Barnardo’s along the way.
