Kirklees Council inspector James Kaye was carrying out a routine inspection of Bismillah Roti House in Huddersfield Road last Wednesday.

He found droppings throughout the premises, including in the basement and the food preparation area.

Mr Kaye, an environmental health officer in the food safety team, closed the takeaway the following day due to the imminent risk to public health.

He told the court that droppings “carry a number of diseases, including salmonella.”

Kirklees Council applied for a Hygiene Prohibition Notice at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court yesterday, which was granted.

The notice will last until Kirklees Council decides the takeaway no longer poses a health risk – it will then be allowed to re-open immediately.

Mohammed Zain, of Myrtle Road, Ravensthorpe, was named as a representative of the business in court papers, but he did not attend yesterday’s hearing.
