Dewsbury drinkers raise the bar for charities

Four charities have received £1,250 each thanks to public-spirited punters.

Raising cash for charity has long been a tradition at the Bath Hotel and when new licensees Ruth Bridges and Lee Dyer took over the pub early last year they were keen to keep the charity work going.

A special presentation evening was held last Thursday when cheques were presented to the HCPT Pilgrimage Trust, Martin House, Kirkwood Hospice and the North Kirklees Autism Support Group and Friends.

Lee said: “We’ve run a variety of events throughout the year. We’ve had pig racing, bottle on the bar, Easter and Christmas raffles but the main fundraiser was a sponsored walk by about 25 people from the Bath Hotel to Samuel Smith’s brewery in Tadcaster.”

The pub, in Halifax Road, Dewsbury, has its own charity committee to organise events and decide which are to be the nominated charities.

Fundraising will soon get under way for the nominated 2012-13 charities – the Pilgrimage Trust, Kirkwood Hospice, North Kirklees Autism Support Group, the Forget-Me-Not Children’s Hospice and the Mid-Yorkshire Warblers.
