Darren Brook, owner of Mirfield Construction, has won the NHBC Pride in the Job award for the north west of England for his firm’s work on a housing project in Birkenshaw.

“I take great pride in the work that I do,” he said. “And I expect people who work for me to have the same attitude towards their work. There is no use only two or three people putting the effort in.”

The NHBC Pride in the Job Awards is a competition dedicated to recognising site managers who achieve the highest standards in house-building.

They assessed the quality of work done on various sites, and decided that Darren was the pick of the crop, which featured entrants from the northwest division.

Darren, 45, set up the business 1989 and has run it ever since. The award is set to be presented to Darren at a ceremony at York Racecourse on Friday evening, and he already has his mind on next year’s awards.

He said: “We are taking great care with the new houses we are working on at the moment, and we are pushing to be considered for next year’s awards.”
