Cycle Speedway

FIRTH Park was the venue for the first two meetings of Heckmondwike Cycle Speedway Club’s 40th season.

The Northern League match against Sheffield saw 16-year-old Pavell Idziorek make his debut after just a few track training sessions. Darren Kent scored a maximum 20 points and was supported by the young Polish rider, Idziorek, along with stalwarts Richard Westcott and Andy Morris.

With guest riders in their ranks, Heckmondwike had 22 points taken off their tally, which saw them suffer a 46-81 loss.

In the second match Martin Booker made his debut, which enabled the club to include a full complement of riders.

Bury won the opening Fours League fixture with 48 points, followed by Stockport 39, Hull 37 and Heckmondwike 36.

In the age related individual events William Naylor scored 10 points in the Under-10s, Sam Booker eight in the Under-13s and Idziorek 16 in the Under-16 event. Martin Booker (10), Richard Westcott (10) and Andy Morris (6) were scorers in the final event of the day. Heckmondwike visit Stockport on Sunday (2pm).
