Woman found twice the legal drink drive limit after leaving Heckmondwike party during lockdown

A woman was caught drink driving after she left a party despite the UK being in lockdown.

The Citroen was stopped in the Heckmondwike area on on March 26 following reports of a female leaving a party and driving off whilst drunk.

The vehicle lwas eventually stopped offiers from the Batley and Spen Neighbourhood Policing Team.

When the female driver gave a road side breath test she gave a reading of 70, twice the legal limit.

She was arrested at the scene.

A spokesperson for the policing team said: "Although the roads are quieter the risk of accidents are still very real, which would put extra strain on already busy emergency services including the NHS.

"The current lockdown conditions the country are facing are to protect the public and emergency services who are working as normal through these unprecedented times, not to allow people to go to a party."
