Trial date set for Dewsbury men charged over Wakefield estate shooting

Four people charged in connection with a shooting in Wakefield will stand trial next year.

The four appeared at Leeds Crown Court via video link from prison for a short trial preparation hearing.

Their arrests came after a gun was fired towards a house on the Lupset estate in August.

Billy Michael Bedford, 20, of Cedar Road Chickenley, Dewsbury; Samuel Andrew Clegg, 23, of Edge Avenue, Thornhill; Anthony Richard Smithey, 27, of Cedar Drive, Chickenley and Dawson Wood, 19, of Gloucester Road, Wakefield, have all be charged with conspiracy to possess a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Smithey and Clegg appeared over the link from HMP Leeds, with Bedford and Wood appearing from HMP Doncaster.

The case has been listed for a trial which is due to begin on March 1, 2021.

All four men will continue to be held on remand.
