Teenager, 17, appears at Leeds Crown Court after being the fourth person to be charged with murder over the death of Bradley Gledhill in Batley

A teenager has appeared in Leeds Crown Court accused of murdering Bradley Gledhill and attempting to murder two other men in Batley.

The 17-year-old male is the fourth person to be charged with murder over the incident on Park Croft.

He appeared before Leeds Crown Court for the first time on Tuesday (June 30).

Mr Gledhill, 20, was stabbed during a fight at around 10.30pm on Sunday, June 21.

He was taken to hospital where he died of his injuries.

Two other males also suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.

On Friday, three men also appeared at the court over the death - Ahmed Karolia, 23, Usman Karolia, 19, both of Lime Tree Avenue, Batley, and Raja Nawaz, 18, of Longfield Road, Heckmondwike.

The four defendants are each charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder. The charges have not yet been put to any of the defendants.

At Friday's hearing, a plea and trial preparation hearing was listed for July 23 and a trial was provisionally listed for December 7.

If the case goes to trial is is expected to last at least two weeks.

The 17-year-old, who cannot be identified because of his age, was arrested on Thursday and was charged after being questioned.

He appeared in Leeds Magistrates Court on Saturday and was remanded in custody.

He appeared in Leeds Crown Court via video link from custody from Wetherby Young Offender Institution for the brief hearing.

No application for bail was made.

He will next appear in the same court on July 23 when he will join his co-accused for the plea and trial preparation hearing.

The court heard two others may be identified and charged in the case, which may extend the length of the trial.

The youth was returned to custody at the end of the hearing.

Enquiries remain ongoing into the incident and the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team continue to appeal for witnesses.

An 18-year-old Batley man arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder has been released on police bail.

A 14-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of the same offences but was eliminated from the ongoing investigation.

Officers executed a search warrant at an address on Church Road in Batley on Saturday morning and a 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder.
