A spokesperson for the NPT said: "Officers were greeted by several local residents voicing their concerns, and showing appreciation for the officers presence. From a safe distance of course.

"Speeding is becoming a force priority and has seen a large increase of reports from concerned members of the public.

"The roads may be quieter, but the laws are still the same, and officers will enforce them where necessary.

"Please drive responsibly and help reduce the strain on emergency services.

"Further speed checks are planned at varying times and different locations over the coming weeks."
