Police make 95 arrests in a month as part of ongoing operation to make Dewsbury and Huddersfield town centres safer
Nearly 100 arrests have been made in an ongoing drive to make two Kirklees town centres safer.
Officers from the Huddersfield and Dewsbury Town Centre Crime Teams have thanked residents for continuing to submit crime reports and intelligence after they made 95 arrests during March.
Across the month, officers working in both town centres arrested suspects on suspicion of assault, robbery, drugs offences and breach of criminal behaviour orders.
A number of the arrests were also made for shoplifting offences.

Police seized four vehicles which were either being driven or used illegally and confiscated alcohol being drunk in areas protected by Public Space Protection Orders on 17 occasions.
Cases also continue to be put before the courts, with three men jailed last month for shoplifting offences as well as breach of a criminal behaviour order.
Officers have been continuing to mount “undercover” plain clothes patrols in Huddersfield to catch out shoplifters, as well as extra high visibility patrolling in Dewsbury.
Special evening and night-time operations have also taken place in both towns to reassure those using the night-time economy and deter offending.
Inspector Mark Pattinson, of Kirklees Police, said: “The start of 2026 has seen our teams make ever higher number of arrests month in, month out as part of our ongoing drive to make Huddersfield and Dewsbury town centres safer.
“Cases also continue to appear before the courts, and I hope this continuing work is reassuring traders and residents as well as those coming to use our town centres.
“It should also make it plain to those involved in crime there is no place for them in either Huddersfield or Dewsbury and if they attend to offend, they should expect to be hunted down.”
He added: “Our partners in the local business communities and the public have been fantastically supportive and I want to thank those who come forwards with information for continuing to do so.
“If you have information about criminal or anti-social activity in either town, then please get in touch to assist us in putting resources where they need to be.
“Information can always be reported on 101, online at https://www.westyorkshire.police.uk/livechat or anonymously to the independent Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555111.”
