"He asked a woman, who was helping him at the time, to hold his hand.

"I would like to thank this woman whoever she is, because she really helped him at a time when he needed it most."

Ms Mir said she is worried for her dad's health during a time when hospitals are seen as hotbeds for patients catching the deadly Covid-19 virus during the pandemic.

"Right now, he's in Leeds General, but will be moved to Pinderfields, in Wakefield, next week," she said.

"I'm worried for my dad's health because he's now in a hospital during a time when coronavirus is still a major concern, and people are still dying from it.

"I feel the virus is another thing to worry about and I know I've got to be extra careful.

"If anybody saw something on Friday involving my dad's incident please come forward and contact the police."

Police said they were called around 1.30pm on July 3 to a report that a man had been hit by a silver car while crossing the road at Market Place.
