Appeal: Taxi driver robbed by man who refused to pay fare from Dewsbury to Liversedge

Detectives have issued a witness appeal following the incident which took place on Quarry Road, Liversedge, between 5.17pm and 5.30pm on Tuesday (July 27).

The incident began after the 32-year-old male driver picked up a man in Dewsbury to take him to Liversedge.

On arriving the suspect refused to pay his fare when asked and then assaulted the driver who was trying to call the police.

The suspect then made off with the victim’s iPhone 6 and escaped up a ginnel between Quarry Road and Upper Barker Street.

He is described as white, aged between 25 and 30, stocky and around 6ft tall. He had very short shaved hair and was clean shaven.

Fortunately, the taxi driver escaped without injury.

Detective Constable Richard Brooke of Kirklees CID, said: “We are appealing for witnesses to the incident and I would like to speak to anyone who saw the assault in the taxi or who saw a man fitting the suspect’s description in the area at the time of the offence.

“The assault took place during a time of day when there would have been people around so the suspect may well have been seen.”
