Crime prevention meeting after shed break-ins

HOMEOWNERS can pick up tips on making their properties more secure at an event next week.

The event at Earlsheaton Conservative Club on Thursday is part of ongoing police work to tackle burglaries.

It follows a spate of shed break-ins in the Dewsbury East area before Christmas.

One man has been arrested in connection with those burglaries, but police are keen to promote simple steps people can take to deter burglars.

Insp Jenny Thompson said: “I am asking anyone who has concerns about burglary in these areas to attend the crime prevention event so that they can pick up the valuable advice that will be on offer from our crime reduction officers.

“Valuable items kept on display in homes or in external garages and sheds do offer thieves an easy target, but there are simple measures that can greatly improve the security of homes and outbuildings and we would ask people to help us in our work to beat the burglars by looking into these security measures.”

The meeting is at the club in New Street, 7.30pm-8pm.
