Crew tackles car fire

A man had to pull into a car park and get his wife and young child out of his vehicle after it began to smoke.

Firefighters rushed to the Stafford Arms pub in Scholes Lane, Cleckheaton, at around 2.30pm today (Wendesday) to tackle the subsequent fire.

Watch manager Richard Lightowler said: “It completely destroyed the engine compartment” of the man’s Vauxhall Vectra.

“He did well in pulling over and getting his wife and child out of the car,” he added.

Two hoses and a breathing apparatus was used to extinguish the blaze.

Nobody was injured.
