Courageous Grace receives Diana Award

Grace McNulty has raised more than £550 for Yorkshire Air Ambulance and served dinner to the homeless in her family’s cafe on Christmas Day in memory of her dad Craig, who died last August after falling while working on a roof.

10-year-old Grace, a pupil at St Joseph’s Primary School on Healds Road, travelled to London last week to accept the Diana Award for Active Campaigner - an award set up in memory of Princess Diana which recognises children who run campaigns in their schools and communities.

And on Monday the school celebrated the success of Grace and her classmates who helped her fundraising with a special assembly.

Now she has received the award, Grace has joined the Diana Network, a programme offering young people the opportunity to volunteer, gain valuable life skills and take part in internships and work placements. St Joseph’s headteacher Maureen Fletcher, who went with Grace and her mum Sharon to pick up the award, said: “It was amazing to see Grace presented with her award by Paralympian Martine Wright and Jordan O’Keefe from Britain’s Got Talent. The Diana Network is a powerful thing for young people, and it dawned on me last week just how significant this is for Grace.

“We’re very proud of her and her classmates for what they’ve done.”
