A sum of £10,025 was approved to improve the pathways in Scholes Recreation Ground.

They plan to install new play equipment for children, create new and improve current pathways and plant new floral decorations.

Coun Andrew Pinnock (Lib Dem, Cleckheaton) said the whole community would benefit from the improvements.

Councillors also approved a £2,500 grant to fund the Manor Gardens Group, a community project that encourages people to grow their own food.

The group has transformed a grot spot in Manor Way, Batley, into more than 3,800 square metres of landscaped growing space.

Coun Gwen Lowe (Lab, Batley West) said: It is all part of the Plant it, Grow it, Eat it grow it scheme.

“It was taken over by Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing and they have turned it from a grot spot into a great big allotment for families, local children and four nearby schools.”
