Projects to improve the Cooper Bridge junction and the A653 Dewsbury – Leeds corridor will get a kickstart if councillors on the West Yorkshire Integrated Transport Authority give the go-ahead on Friday.

They are being asked to approve £2.7m of funding to get 29 transport schemes throughout West Yorkshire and York off the ground.

The cash would be used to improve the Huddersfield to Cooper Bridge route, the Cooper Bridge junction itself, as well as the A644 Cooper Bridge to junction 25.

Improvements would also be made to Huddersfield train station.

Metro Chairman Coun James Lewis said: “All of the schemes in this report have been developed to meet the West Yorkshire Transport plus Fund’s key aims of enhancing connectivity generating additional economic investment and creating jobs.”

The schemes have been developed under the £1bn West Yorkshire ‘plus’ Transport Fund proposals.
