Harvey Hardill, 11, who attends Gomersal Primary School and plays for Cleckheaton and Gomersal Boys, was the only person from the UK to be selected to be involved in the competition.

Harvey helped carry the Portuguese flag and walked past his hero Christian Ronaldo. He said: “Standing in the tunnel with the players and walking out onto the pitch at the opening was amazing.”

Gomersal school’s head teacher Melanie Cox said: “This has been a fantastic opportunity for Harvey and we are all very proud of him.”
