Concert will be out of this world

A Grammy nominated singer is joining forces with Kirklees schoolchildren to stage an astrology-themed concert.

American singer-songwriter Beth Nielsen Chapman will join Kirklees Music School, Barnsley poet Ian McMillan and 200 primary school children to perform pieces from Ms Chapman’s album, The Mighty Sky.

Kirklees Youth Symphony Orchestra, the University of Huddersfield and Norristhorpe Junior and Infant School are among those involved.

It’s hoped that a day of science-inspired events culminating in a big bang of a performance of The Mighty Sky on Thursday March 19 will spark the imaginations of future scientists and musicians.

Kirklees is one of only two music education hubs invited to help launch the project in the UK with Ms Chapman.

It is taking place at Huddersfield Town Hall.
