Dewsbury on Sea is an event many families look forward to each summer – but tomorrow’s celebrations will be extra special for Calum Beck.

For he could see shoppers strolling around wearing his wonderful whale design.

Calum, of Knowles Lane, Gomersal, has been named the winner of a T-shirt design competition.

Event organisers asked children aged 12 and under to create a special image inspired by the giant 50ft whale theatre that will be the centrepiece of the free outdoor event.

And the eight-year-old’s drawing wowed the judges – Coun Masood Ahmed, Adrian Ashpool from AB Print Group and Reporter news editor Lindsay Pantry.

The T-shirts will be sold from a surf shack in Foundry Street, with the proceeds going to charity.

Longcauseway Gardens will host the whale theatre, a Noah’s Ark inflatable for toddlers and Kirklees Active Leisure’s muscle beach.

Blackpool donkey rides will set off from outside Longcauseway Church.
