Commuters could be hit with car park time limit

MOTORISTS who park all day at Mirfield Library could be forced to give up their spaces for shoppers.

Mirfield Town Council is planning to ask Kirklees Council to impose restrictions on the car park in Station Road.

Currently, people can park there all day for free but councillors are concerned that too many spaces are being taken up by commuters who go to work from Mirfield train station.

At a meeting on Tuesday, councillors discussed imposing a three hour limit.

Coun Alan Burton (Con, Battyeford) said: “This is to alleviate the parking for people who want to come to Mirfield to shop. The purpose is to make Mirfield a viable place.”
