The Dewsbury Rams Community Foundation will use funds generated by a proposed development near the club’s stadium to organise sports activities, promote healthy living, provide leisure facilities and educate people about health.

Dewsbury Area Committee was asked to make nominations to the foundation board when it met on Tuesday.

The committee can make up to four appointments, one of which must be someone who is independent of both the council and club.

The club itself can elect up to two trustees.

Dewsbury East councillors Paul Kane, Eric Firth and Cathy Scott were appointed to the foundation, since the stadium is in their area.

They had also asked for such a scheme to be set up.

Coun Kane (Lab) said: “It’s about ensuring that any funds are used for the people in Dewsbury and particularly around the stadium. That was most important to us.”

The committee would like to hear from anyone interested in taking the independent seat on the foundation.

All trustees will serve on the board for three years.
