Collegians are back with Copacabana

The Dewsbury Collegians will perform Barry Manilow’s Copacabana musical when their annual show hits town.

The amateur dramatics ensemble will take to the stage at Dewsbury Town Hall from June 10-13 at 7.15pm.

The musical tells the story of Lola, who is trying to make it big in show business, and love interest Tony.

After finding their feet performing at the Copacabana in Manhattan, Lola is swept away to appear in a night club in Havana, halting the duo’s budding romance.

It will include songs like Man Wanted, Sweet Heaven and of course, Copacabana.

Former Collegians president Noel Rigg said the show has rarely been performed in the Dewsbury area.

And for the first time Abbie Sampson, 17, who studies performing arts and musical theatre at HuddersfieldNew College is leading lady of a Collegians production.

The role of Tony will be played by Paul Metcalfe, who is also a Collegians first-timer.
