Coffee to perk up Batley commuters

Commuters at Batley Station can enjoy a good pick-me-up thanks to a new coffee van that has taken up residence on the forecourt.

The Friends of Batley Station (FOBS) worked with Prop Coffee Co proprietor Mike Scattergood and station operators Northern Rail to broker a deal to offer coffee from an iconic Italian Piaggio scooter van.

And it’s not just the usual selection of smooth roast coffees on offer to brighten up commuters’ days but also various teas and breakfast snacks including porridge.

Mike said: “Now people realise that I’m there every day, I’m starting to get regulars. Everyone is very friendly and take an interest in the van itself as well as the coffee, and Northern Rail has been very accommodating.”

Mike has had some challenging weather to deal with since starting in January and had to miss one day’s trade due to Storm Henry.

Chair of FOBS, councillor Gwen Lowe said: “FOBS is thrilled to have been able to help a small business and improve the facilities at Batley Station in this way. Mike’s coffee is great and he deserves everyone’s support. We are also grateful for the continued help and support of Northern Rail in our efforts to improve our station.”

Anyone interested in getting involved with the work of FOBS can contact Gwen on 07716 998387 or come along to the next Action Station morning at the station at 11am on Saturday, March 5.
