Cleckheaton pair take part in Football to Amsterdam charity cycle

Tim Kent, aged 47, and Iggy Milomo, 51, will be taking part in this year’s Football to Amsterdam cycling challenge for Prostate Cancer UK as the charity aims to raise £500,000.

The football-loving pair will set off from Barnsley FC’s Oakwell ground to support the leading men’s health charity on Friday, June 3.

Alongside them will be three former professionals; Luther Blissett, Terry Butcher and Viv Anderson will start from London, Ipswich and Barnsley respectively a week before England take on the cream of the continent in this summer’s European Championships in France.

Tim and Iggy, both Bradford City fans, will join the former England trio and more than 350 riders in Prostate Cancer UK’s Men United team, all riding 145 miles and raising money to stop prostate cancer being a killer.

The £500,000 raised will help ‘shift the science’ and crack the three core issues of diagnosis, treatment and prevention which have been left unsolved for too long.

It will also help provide support and information to those affected by the disease.

Football to Amsterdam is more than a ride for Tim and Iggy who were inspired to go the distance for Prostate Cancer UK after seeing a post on the Bradford City website and also through Jeff Stelling’s immense walk.

Tim said: “Ignoring prostate cancer won’t beat it, so we joined the fight by signing up to take on the Football to Amsterdam ride.

“We decided to ride for Prostate Cancer UK because we all unfortunately know people affected by cancer.

“The fact that this challenge brings football and fundraising together is very appealing for us.

“Prostate cancer is something we didn’t know a lot about.

“But only last week I found out one of our friends who 17 years ago lost his wife to breast cancer now has prostate cancer, so it really is something that’s close to our hearts.”
