Chosen four will be ambassadors for town

Mirfield will honour four new town ambassadors at a ceremony next month.

Mirfield Town Council has announced its new Mirfield Ambassadors to represent Mirfield to the rest of the county.

The chosen four are James Dedman, Christine Sykes, the Rev Helen Butler and Grahame Forster.

Teenage shooting prodigy James Dedman made fourth place in the youth category of the ISSF Shooting World Championships last year.

James hopes to make the team GB shooting team for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Christine Sykes, trustee and steward of Trinity Methodist Church was also picked to represent Mirfield.

Christine managed the refurbishment of the church last year.

The rev Helen Butler, from Mirfield Team Parish, has helped raise thousands for the renovation of St Mary’s Church.

Grahame Forster has been a linchpin in the Mirfield allotment society for decades.

All four have served the town in different ways and were nominated for an ambassador badge by members of the public.

Previously named ambassadors include Mirfield-born A-lister Sir Patrick Stewart and teenage shooting sensation Jake Healey.

The ambassadors will be given their badges at the Civic Service on Sunday April 6 at 3pm at St John the Evangelist, Hopton Hall Lane, Upper Hopton.
