Child murderer killed in prison

A MAN jailed for the murder of his partner’s two-year-old daughter has been found killed in prison.

Subhan Anwar, 24, was jailed alongside partner Zahbeena Navsarka in 2009 after being convicted of the murder of Sanam Navsarka.

Anwar was serving a life sentence for torturing and murdering Sanam in Long Lartin Prison in Worcestershire.

It is understood he was held hostage in cell before he was killed yesterday. Two prisoners have been arrested on suspicion of murder,

A prison service spokesperson said: “An incident at HMP Long Lartin on Thursday February 14 resulted in the death of prisoner Subhan Anwar.

“Two prisoners are now in police custody and the matter is being investigated by police.”

A West Mercia Police spokesman said: “West Mercia Police has launched a murder investigation after a 24-year-old man died in Long Lartin prison near Evesham last night.

“The body of the man was found by prison officers at just before 8pm on Thursday 14 February.

“Two men - aged 47 and 45 - have been arrested on suspicion of murder and are currently in police custody.”

Sanam died from complications resulting from untreated leg fractures. She had 107 separate injuries on her body, all four limbs broken and fractures to both forearms and thigh bones.

Sanam’s mother, who grew up in Dewsbury, and is formerly of Soothill, was jailed for nine years for manslaughter following the trail in 2009.

Anwar, formerly of Batley, was sentenced to a minimum of 28 years for her murder.

Traces of blood were said to have been found at the couple’s former home in Howley Walk, Batley.
