Carlton J&I School on Upper Road, Batley Carr, won funding from TD Direct Investing to hire an incubator so the children could learn about how chickens are born.

Of the 12 eggs the school looked after, nine hatched last week, much to the delight of children.

Headteacher Tim Scargill said: “There was a real buzz of excitement in school created by our chicks. All the children have enjoyed spending time with them and hopefully we can take part in this project again next year.”

Mohammed Patel from TD Direct Investing said: “Seeing their faces after the nine chicks were hatched highlighted that this was money well spent.”

The chicks have now gone to new homes and their owners will be sending the children regular updates on how they are progressing.
