Chemist honoured for contribution

A chemist has been rewarded for his contribution to pharmacy.

Jatinder Dasanjh, owner of Hughes Chemist in Soothill, Batley, received the Alphega Pharmacy Regional Award at a gala dinner at the Belfry in Sutton Coldfield.

He was presented with an engraved trophy and £1,000 at the event, held as part of the Alphega Pharmacy UK Conference.

Mystery shoppers are sent out to pharmacies to put customer service to the test before the awards.

Alphega general manager Sue Moore said: “With over 20 years of community pharmacy service, Jatinder has embraced the Alphega Pharmacy concept to redesign and refit this healthy living pharmacy to better suit the changing needs of his community.

“He has consistently achieved excellent customer care standards within the pharmacy and strives to provide his customers with excellent healthcare services.”

Mr Dasanjh said the hard work of his staff was the reason he won.

He said “I’m really pleased.The award is more for the staff really, to recognise the effort and the engagement the staff are putting in.

“It’s that which I’m particularly proud of.”

Alphega Pharmacy, part of Alliance Healthcare, is a network of independent pharmacists and has more than 900 members across the UK.

Hughes Chemist in Batley competed with other Alphega members across the region and will now be automatically entered, alongside nine other award winners, into the next Alliance Healthcare Pharmacy Awards, which will be held in January at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
