Craig Keyworth, 40, decided to run for cancer charity Anthony Nolan after his mum was recently given the all clear after suffering from the disease.

He said: “When mum was diagnosed with cancer it really hit us hard as we had not had any illness like this in the family before. This gave me the impetus to raise money for a cancer charity.”

Mr Keyworth, who lives in Wilson Road, Mirfield, has completed half-marathons, 10K races and climbed Kilimanjaro, but never 26 miles.

The regional sales manager added: “It’s a feeling of nervous excitement in anticipation of doing the biggest thing I’ve ever done.”

Mr Keyworth will be running on April 21 with his friend, Andrew Parkin, who was born in Mirfield and now lives in Hull. Donate by visiting www.justgiving.com/craigkeyworth or /andyparkin2013

Teenager Holly Stuart is also running her first marathon and hopes to raise £2,500 for animal charity the World Wildlife fund.

The 19-year-old applied to compete in the race after applying through her employer, Ikea at Birstall.

Miss Stuart, of Nettleton Road, Mirfield, said: “The WWF is a charity I’m quite passionate about because I have worked in a vet’s in the past and I’m quite a big animal lover.

Although her training had to be put on hold during the recent snowy weather, last weekend Miss Stuart ran the Liversedge Half Marathon to prepare.

“It was really, really, really hard but I managed it, and it’s a really hilly route,” she said.
