Dewsbury-born PC Mark Goodlad, 41, was helping a stranded motorist on the motorway near Wakefield when he was hit by a lorry that veered onto the hard shoulder.

His brother Andrew organised a charity event at the Morton House Club in Thornhill Lees last year which raised £1700 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. The air ambulance tried to save Mark’s life in October 2011.

Andrew hopes to top that amount with tonight’s event, at the same venue, which features Smokie tribute act The Spirit of Smokie. There will be more entertainment throughout the evening as well as a raffle and other fundraising activities.
