“Charities give kids perspective”

Old Bank School, Mirfield, staff and pupils will wear an item of yellow clothing and donate £1 each to the charity on July 3.

Learning mentor Janet Ramm said staff and pupils alike loved contributing to charity.

“Helping with charities gives the kids perspective,” she said. “Even though our communities don’t necessarily have a lot, there’s always someone in need and a feelgood factor in helping others.”

Pupils at the school had already crafted a wicker bicycle, which followed the route of Le Tour and was placed outside Ripon Cathedral before it was returned to the school.

The school hopes Le Tour will encourage cycling and improve cycling safety knowledge among its pupils.

Old Bank joins Dewsbury schools Westborough High and Thornhill Community Academy in pledging its support for the fundraising day, which was conceived by the Yorkshire Post.

Residents and businesses across the county will take part in other yellow-themed charity events to raise money for Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

The money raised will help to keep the charity’s lifesaving helicopters in the air, which currently costs £9,900 a day.
