Celebrating the Queen's birthday with garden party and arts festival

A special garden party is being organised to celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday.

The Friends of Mirfield Library are hosting the free royal event at the town’s library in the garden area on Saturday.

Visitors are being invited to the garden to take part in competitions, refreshments and games.

There will also be music on offer at the event, performed by the Kirklees Music School Senior Strings and Choir.

The event will competitions for children, including a drawing contest to design a birthday card for the Queen.

And the winning entry will be mailed to Her Majesty by the volunteer group.

Youngsters are being invited to dress up as either a prince or a princess as part of the garden event.

It takes place from 10.30am until noon on Saturday.

The friends group is also organising the new Mirfield Arts Festival next month.

It starts on July 15 and will feature exhibitions, drama and music performances as well as children’s and families activities.

There will be events on offer across the town as part of the festival, which will run from July 15 until July 17.

West Yorkshire Print Workshop, in Mirfield, is also involved with the events and will open its studio doors to visitors.
