CCTV images released after taxi driver assaulted at Dewsbury station

British Transport Police are trying to trace two men after an assault outside Dewsbury Railway Station which left a taxi driver needing hospital treatment.

PC Penny Halliwell, who is leading the investigation, wants to speak to anyone who saw what took place.

She particularly wants to hear from anyone who may recognise the men in the images, who are believed to have been at the station and could have vital information.

She said: “One of the men approached the taxi rank asking to be taken to the Wilton estate and shouted at a driver, who was waiting in the taxi rank outside the station.

“When the driver, aged 46 and from Dewsbury, refused to take him due to his aggressive behaviour, the suspect punched him.

“The taxi dispatcher, aged 25 and from Dewsbury, then intervened and became involved in an altercation with a second man, who punched him in the face and made offensive comments towards him.”

Both men then left the station. The taxi driver sustained a large cut to his mouth and swollen cheek, while the taxi dispatcher received no serious injuries but was badly shaken up.
