Growing Works, which operates across the district, aims to improve health and wellbeing through activities such as gardening, outdoor cooking, woodcraft and games.

The organisation has recently received financial support from Kirklees Community Partnerships to expand the range of activities offered to those with complex needs and mental health issues.

Kim Walton, mum to Nathan, six, and Grace, eight, has been delighted with the charity’s work.

“Both of my kids love coming to the activities and as a parent I get a great deal out of it as well.

“Nathan has additional needs and finds it difficult to socialise but here he is accepted and encouraged and he really enjoys it.

“It also means my daughter gets some time to enjoy being creative and gardening and I get lots of support from other parents in a place where I don’t feel we are being judged.

“I would encourage others to come along, everyone is welcome and there are lots of activities for all ages.”
