Mrs McCormack’s mother was diagnosed with the condition almost 40 years ago, and a co-worker was diagnosed six years ago. When Tesco made Diabetes UK their charity of the year, it gave her the extra push to do something “crazy”.

“I remember when my Mum became diabetic,” said Mrs McCormack. “It was terrifying for a six year old, seeing your mum lose so much weight and be so ill.

“When my work chose this charity as their charity of the year, I knew I had to do something different.”

Mrs McCormack added: “I’m a 46-year-old woman doing something completely crazy. There’s a 95 per cent chance that my children will inherit the condition, so it’s all about giving hope to them and raising money for the charity.”
